Not to DO List- The challenge is not to do it!

Not to Do List-The challenge is not to do it!

A couple of weeks ago, I was challenged to create a “Not to do list” What is a  “Not to do list”? It’s a list of things you no longer want to do. The challenge was create a list of items that I no longer want to do. I can think of a million things I don’t want to do, but I couldn’t bring myself to write them down; strange!

In order to be better we have to do better and to do better we have to stop doing what is not productive in our lives. I actually created the “Not to do list” and amazed at what I no longer want to do; help me to realize what was causing unchangeable circumstances in my life.  The conclusions   of this assignment was to remove what is hindering me/you from being the our best, by accomplishing changes to help us in our  personal, spirituals, business and financial life.

Let’s look at a few “Don’t Do’s” I placed on my list.

Procrastination-I always wait to the last minute to do things and it continue to cause me late fees, or to be stuck in traffic, which is what I despise!!  Procrastination comes from doing what you don’t enjoy doing, so we tend to put it off to the last minutes. Now here is the key, when you remove something, you must replace it with something, what did  I replace procrastination with? I replaced procrastination with using my daytimer  placed  by my bedside to remind me of my responsibilities to my life, business and ministry. looking at getting things accomplish as a success!

Snacking- Another item on my list; snacking. I love to snack and I enjoy snacking on chips, popcorn and cookies. My snacking generates from sitting in front of the TV or reading my favorite magazines. I stop buying cookies,  I begin purchasing Pop Secret Homestyle popcorn, and Lay’s lightly salt chips, still didn’t stop the snacking,  so I had to replace it with something else productive.  What Did I replace it with? Yoga!!!

There were more  items on my list, I wanted to share with you an example of how I worked  my “Don’t do list” If you are a late sleeper, and never get anything done do to sleeping late;  add don’t sleep late, don’t drink 4 sodas a day or don’t smoke. It’s about what you want to change to better yourself in helping you to be a success.

If you had to create a “don’t do list”  what would be one of the items listed? Would you be brave enough to accept the challenge? Do you believe you have a list of don’t do’s that need to be put in writing? Let’s hear from you what you would add to your list.
Until next time.. The Business Woman

You are 100% responsible for your life.

You are 100% responsible for your life.

Have you ever wonder why some people are successful and you are trying to get to 1/3 of where they are? What about the businesses that starts over night and become a huge success by morning? Have you ever wondered why a person who begins a job the same time you did and by the first year have moved to another position within the company? These are individuals who take 100 % responsibility for their lives. They understand that in order to move forward, move ahead or to go beyond the next level, they take accountability for their career, businesses and their life.

We all know the saying; we are in control of our own life. Nothing happens that God don’t want to happen or my favor “if it’s for me; then it will be”. I wonder, if it is for you, but you don’t make the effect to make it yours’? What does this sound like to you; Excuses?? Yep.. Me too!'  Excused are made when you can’t find a reason to do or the fear of failing; crazy huh? There are people who love the limelight, love how success smells or enjoys having success in their life! Then there are others who are afraid to be successful or powerful; they speak about how it can happen, but then follow with excuses to why it can’t happen..for them!!.

I consider myself to be very successful. It’s not because I have tons of friends or a lot of money. It’s not because I live in a 9 bedroom house or drive a fabulous car. I’m successful because some of the odds and failures that happened I’ve survived them. The struggles that I had to deal with and prayed through made me successful beyond measures.  My success is defined by overcoming my failures and struggles and how I came out on top by being an over comer!!!.

Many blame their un-success on money, education, lack of this and lack of that. Some say it’s due to racism, gender or politics. But imagine someone like Harriet Tubman who goal was to find freedom for those who wanted it; or Prince, who got tired of paying more royalties to record companies instead of receiving it, which open the door to other artists creating their own production companies.  I read an article about a homeless man who created a printing company by making fliers for people’s businesses.
NIKE create the slogan “Just Do It” , and we are the first to use it; but taking 100% responsibilities for our lives is not about just doing it, it’s about understanding you have to do it. Everything you do; anything you want to do has to align with your purpose, your values and your goals.

Jack Canfield the successful writer for “Chicken Soup for the Soul” wrote a book called “The Successful Principles”. In the first chapter of the he talks about E+R=O (EVENT + RESPONSE=OUTCOME) You blame the (E) event for your lack of results (R) creating no (O) outcome. When I read this I was amazed at how many times this has occurred in my life and some of the people around me, (I eventually made new friends) LOL. In the same chapter,  Mr. Canfield also indicated if you change the letters around by changing  your ( R)respond  to ( E) events the way things are; until you get the ( O) outcome you want -will change your thinking, your communication and your behavior; you will eventually change.

The key to being successful is not the money or fame and fortune; it’s being able to change your negative response so that your day will turn your life into a positive change.
You are 100% responsible for your life, your business, your career. You have to make it happen, not make excuses to why it’s not happening. Stop wondering how it’s going to happen, just let God know what you want, and trust Him to make it happen. Believe me, if it’s not in His plan, you would not have the vision to do it.

What are your excuses for not moving forward? What motivate you each day to keep moving forward? The struggle is real, what are you doing to overcome? I would love to hear from you, you respond can help someone else!

Reading your way to the Top!!!

Reading your way to the top..

I love to read, its part of my nature and what my mother instilled in her daughters. My mom [Joyce Figures] was big on education and striving to be the best. I want to believe this was due to an era she came from; a time when education was hard to come by for Blacks. Momma always read cook books, medical books as she often told us; the more you know the farther you go.

When It comes to reading I love to read successful stores or articles on people who changed their lives because they had no choice, or to read about how to do this or that (in business). I also enjoy reading motivational books by authors like John C. Maxwell or John Canfield, the author of Chicken soup for your soul. When I want to read books for my spirit growth, I’m hooked on reading any book by my pastor Dr. Tony Evans, or his daughter Priscilla Shiner; both are the most powerful writers; their books feed my heart and soul spiritually.

As I prepare for my 2nd journey in life I begin reading again. This past week end, I had the pleasure of  stopping by Half Price Book Store to pick up on a few books to take me into the summer as well prepare me for business next journey.

There are some books I re-read because I’m looking for a new outlook of information and some I reference often depending on what I’m looking for in my client’s project.  I have a great deal of books on Event Planning; Event Designs and business; all have been read once or twice, depending what I need to learn or understand about my business or industry.

Self education is requirement when in business or advancing in your career. This is the information that no one can take from you as well as available when you need it. Reading helps to stay on top of your craft, to learn what’s new in your industry or to make sure you know how to hold a conversation about what you do. Books are knowledge to open doors.

Have you ever walked into someone home and saw a library, or a bookcase loaded with books?  What about the space designed on the floors with piles of magazines and books? Believe me there’s a message to the madness of with those libraries and book cases; it’s about being on top of their game.

I challenge you to take a moment and browse the books stores and purchase books that will help you in business and your personal growth or your career. Teach yourself how to be the best event planners, marketing rep or PR person in your industry. All it takes is a few hours a week to read a couple chapters. In just a few hours you can increase your knowledge better yourself in business, learn how to speak knowledge in your career growth; as well as increase business by understanding your market.

What are your favorite business books? Who are your favorite author? What kind of books motivate you?
